In a powerful demonstration of giving back and creating opportunities for academic excellence, distinguished Hampton University alumnus and renowned corporate leader Wesley “Wes” Coleman has donated an impactful $150,000 to further develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education initiatives at Hampton University.
Hampton University officials confirmed this transformative gift during an uplifting ceremony this May on the illustrious Hampton campus. Wesley Coleman, who currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hampton, expressed deep pride and gratitude towards the university, emphasizing the integral role his Hampton education played in shaping his extraordinary professional and personal journey.
“Hampton University shaped my life profoundly,” Coleman stated at the ceremony. “The education, core values, and sense of responsibility that I received at Hampton provided foundational principles instrumental to my career growth and community activism. It’s an honor to support Hampton students and give back to the institution that has given me so much.”
Coleman graduated from Hampton University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in business management, subsequently earning his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. His illustrious corporate career includes senior leadership roles at prestigious corporations such as Schlitz Brewing Company, S.C. Johnson, Nike, and the Walt Disney Company, where he served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer. Coleman also holds notable national leadership and board positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Ray Charles Foundation, and was previously Grand Sire Archon (National President) of the eminent Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity—demonstrating an enduring legacy of leadership and positive community involvement.
