FELLOW HAMPTONIANS!
Over the past two years, it has been a joy to serve and represent you as
President of the

National Hampton
Alumni Association, Inc. Thank you for
your vote of confidence, support, and
encouragement.
During our Memorial and Worship
Service Reunion Weekend our Chaplain,
Rev. Dr. Grainger Browning, challenged
the Alumni to “Dare to Be Remarkable.”
He reminded us that remark means a
mark has been made before. As such,
many Hamptonians have made their
marks before us. Likewise it is incumbent
upon us now to make our marks.
We fondly refer to Hampton
University as our “Home by the Sea.”
If Hampton is our home, then we are
responsible for ensuring that our home
remains welcoming, vibrant, and a place
that continues to attract and develop
the best and the brightest. We must not
relinquish our responsibility and expect
someone else to do more for our home
than we are willing to do. I implore each
of you to make your mark, become
engaged in the Alumni Association, support
your home by giving it your time,
talent, and treasure.
When I assumed the leadership helm
of NHAA, Inc., I asked you to join me
in embracing a basic belief, “Possibilities
Unlimited.” This theme was a result of
my being inspired by President Barack
Obama during his Presidential Campaign.
During his campaign he demonstrated
that when you maintain a positive attitude,
prepare, focus, and execute your
plan, you can do what some perceive as
impossible. President Obama took three
little words, “Yes we can” and made his
belief a reality. He demonstrated to me
“Possibilities are Unlimited.” Needless
to say, having the opportunity at the
140th Commencement to represent you
and welcome President Obama as a
Hamptonian was very special.
As my tenure comes to a close, I
ask you one simple question, “Can we
as Hampton Alumni take care of our
home?”
I now pass the leadership legacy to
Joan McMillan Wickham as she assumes
the role of NHAA, Inc. President. Please
join Joan at her first Biennial Convention
in Virginia Beach, Virginia on August
19-22, 2010.
Enjoy the summer!
