The National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc. Appointed in 2021, Jones made history as the first Black woman to lead a major cable news network. During her groundbreaking tenure at MSNBC, she championed journalistic excellence, advanced inclusive programming, and steered the network through some of the most pivotal moments in recent U.S. history. Her leadership helped MSNBC reach record ratings, expand digital engagement, and prioritize diverse perspectives in political and cultural coverage.
A proud graduate of Hampton University, Jones has long credited her alma mater with shaping her strategic mindset and personal resilience. “My experience at Hampton University provided me with much more than just an education—it instilled in me resilience, vision, and a commitment to excellence. Hampton’s legacy continually pushes me toward breaking new ground,” she shared in a recent interview.
Though she has transitioned from her executive role at MSNBC, Jones remains deeply engaged in media and education. In 2025, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Hampton University and named to the Board of Directors of the We Are Family Foundation, where she continues her advocacy for equity and youth empowerment.
