Before You Apply

Can you answer yes to all five?

  • I am currently enrolled at Hampton University.
  • My cumulative GPA is 2.3 or higher.
  • I have a past-due balance from a previous semester.The award is posted to your account to cover that balance. It is not for current-semester charges.
  • I have never received the Student Emergency Fund.Each student can receive it only once.
  • I have completed at least one semester at Hampton.Students in their first semester, including transfer students, are not eligible yet.

If you can answer yes to each one, you may be eligible. Hampton University verifies every answer before NHAA, Inc. considers an award.

What happens next

Who can apply?

Current Hampton University students who have completed at least one semester, have a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher, have a past-due balance from a previous semester, and have never received the Student Emergency Fund.

How much can I receive?

NHAA, Inc. may award up to $5,000. The actual amount varies with each student's need and the funds available.

Will I receive the money directly?

No. Awards are posted directly to your Hampton University student account to help cover your past-due balance.

Can the fund pay this semester's charges?

No. The Student Emergency Fund is only for balances owed from previous semesters that are preventing registration or graduation.

I'm a freshman or a new transfer student. Can I apply?

Not during your first semester at Hampton. Second-semester freshmen and transfer students who have completed a semester may apply.

How long does a decision take?

Up to 30 business days. Hampton University first verifies your enrollment, GPA and balance, and then the NHAA, Inc. committee reviews your application. Please do not submit a second application.

How will you contact me?

By email, at the Hampton University address you enter on the form. Type it carefully. If you haven't heard from us within 14 days, the address may have been entered incorrectly.

I received the fund before. Can I apply again?

No. Each student can receive the Student Emergency Fund only once.
