In an exciting development that underscores Hampton University’s ongoing commitment to promoting educational excellence and access, the university recently announced on May 9, 2025, its strategic partnership with Hinds Community College at Utica as new member schools of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). This collaboration will significantly expand academic and professional opportunities, particularly benefiting historically underserved student populations.
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, established in 1987, focuses primarily on supporting the nearly 300,000 students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Hampton University’s inclusion in this esteemed consortium brings forth a multitude of potential benefits for both current students and alumni. Students will immediately gain opportunities for scholarships, internships, dedicated leadership programs, and career advancement resources, substantially enhancing their academic experience and professional readiness.
“This strategic partnership further emphasizes Hampton University’s dedication to empowering our students and alumni with a broad spectrum of opportunities to excel,” says Hampton University President Darrell K. Williams. “Joining the Thurgood Marshall College Fund aligns perfectly with our efforts in enhancing equity, accessibility, and excellence in higher education for our richly diverse student body.”
Beyond opportunities for students, alumni will also benefit from enhanced networking, professional development, and leadership programs curated by TMCF. The partnership aims to strengthen connections among alumni, thereby fostering a robust professional community with shared goals and experiences. Dr. Elayne Hayes-Anthony, President of Hinds Community College at Utica, added, “We are proud to stand alongside Hampton University in this new association, which reflects our shared vision and commitment toward nurturing future leaders and innovators.”
